Eco-Art
An important dimension of my work as an artist is engaging people with nature, and lately I've been working a lot on eco-art with children (and absolutely loving it!).
What is eco-art? Art that is 'eco', short for ecological, aims to bring attention to issues of environmental conservation and preservation, and is made sustainably, using either natural materials or repurposed stuff. It can be ephemeral such as placed in a natural environment where it is left to interact with the elements. It can also be lasting, and made of objects that us humans consider trash and that have a long-term detrimental impact on biodiversity and health. Eco-art is also about - and that is principally my focus - working with nature to produce art, in such a way that one also learns intimately from and with nature.
In this respect, the eco-art that I am teaching is a celebration of harmonious human interaction, where we can create beauty together in a way that is mindful of our environment. This is particularly inspiring and empowering for children, who are growing up in a world affected by the climate crisis and biodiversity decline.
This is what I aspire, in my work as an eco-art teacher: to give the tools and knowledge to the younger generations to be able to relate proactively and positively with nature as well as find creative channels for self-expression and solutioneering for the challenges ahead.
